Siri AI on iOS 27: Supported Devices, Languages, Limits and Availability

Apple began rolling out Siri AI in beta on September 14, 2026, alongside iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27. The new assistant adds personal-context retrieval across messages, email and photos, onscreen awareness, broader question answering and expanded systemwide app actions.

The hardware requirement is narrower than the operating-system compatibility list. Siri AI requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled device. On iPhone, that means iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later. Macs and most supported iPads require Apple silicon, while Apple also supports the A17 Pro iPad mini and Apple Vision Pro.

Siri AI is initially a beta in English. Apple says French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support will arrive in October 2026. The feature is initially unavailable on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch in the European Union, and the new Apple Intelligence features are unavailable in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements.

This distinction matters for iOS 27 users because the operating system itself supports older hardware. Independent testing and release coverage from Ars Technica notes that iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and later, while Siri AI requires the newer Apple Intelligence hardware above.

Apple also identifies a higher hardware tier for its most capable on-device model and features such as expressive voices and advanced dictation. That tier includes iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, iPad models with M4 or later and at least 12GB of unified memory, Macs with M3 or later and at least 12GB of unified memory, and Apple Vision Pro with M5.

What Siri AI can do

The new Siri architecture combines conversational responses with access to personal context and system services. Apple says Siri can retrieve relevant information from a user's messages, emails and photos and connect that information to actions in other apps.

One Apple example combines several steps: Siri finds an activity mentioned in a message, retrieves a related recipe from email, and adds ingredients to Reminders. Apple also lists actions such as drafting an email, editing and sharing photos, and using supported third-party apps.

Existing app integrations continue to work, including actions such as sending a WhatsApp message or playing an Audible book. Apple says deeper actions are coming for apps including Microsoft Outlook, Notability and Tripsy.

Apple Foundation Models and Gemini

Apple says the new Apple Intelligence generation is powered by Apple Foundation Models developed in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models. Processing is split between models running locally and server-side models delivered through Apple's Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.

The system orchestrator can also use local platform components such as the Spotlight index and App Toolbox. That architecture allows some personal-context retrieval and app interaction to remain on device while more computationally demanding requests can use Private Cloud Compute.

Apple states that personal data sent to Private Cloud Compute is not stored or made accessible to Apple. The company continues to expose the Private Cloud Compute architecture for independent security verification.

Languages and regional availability

Siri AI starts in beta in English. Apple plans to add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October 2026.

The broader Apple Intelligence platform supports devices configured for Chinese (simplified or traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish or Vietnamese, although individual features can have narrower language availability.

Regional restrictions are material at launch. Siri AI is initially unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. Apple Intelligence's new generation is also unavailable in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements.

Server-side features have daily usage limits

Apple has introduced an important capacity policy for the new generation of Apple Intelligence. Features that depend on server-side models are subject to daily usage limits.

Apple specifically includes Siri AI, intelligent photo-editing tools, Image Playground and AFM 3 Cloud models in Shortcuts among features that can be limited. The company says limits can vary by feature, request complexity, system demand and system policies.

Apple has not published a single numerical daily quota. That missing number is decision-relevant because the limits can affect sustained use of cloud-backed AI workflows. Apple says expanded access will be offered for a fee in the future, establishing a future paid tier for higher server-side usage without yet publishing its price or launch date.

Deployment implications

For existing Apple users, the main compatibility check is the Apple Intelligence hardware floor rather than whether the device can install the 2026 operating-system release. An iPhone that receives iOS 27 can still fall outside Siri AI support.

The architecture also makes workload placement relevant. Local models and system indexes handle part of the experience, while Private Cloud Compute provides additional model capacity. Users evaluating Siri AI for repeated cloud-heavy workflows should account for Apple's new daily server-side limits until the company publishes more specific quotas and paid-access terms.

Siri AI is therefore a substantial platform release rather than a standalone chatbot addition: Apple is connecting its foundation models, personal data indexes, application actions and cloud inference layer directly to the operating system. The practical launch constraints are equally concrete—supported Apple Intelligence hardware, English-first beta availability, regional restrictions and variable daily limits for server-backed features.
