AI Coding Subscription Plans Compared: Prices, Limits, Models & Usage Rules (August 2026)

AI coding subscriptions have become genuinely difficult to compare — and the confusion is costing developers real money.

One provider advertises "20× usage." Another gives 20,000 AI credits. Some impose five-hour rolling limits, while others reset daily, weekly or monthly. Several products bundle cloud-agent compute separately from model usage. Open-source coding harnesses may be free, but the underlying model inference still gets billed per token. The result: developers routinely overpay for features they don't need, or under-provision and hit rate limits mid-sprint.

This is the most thorough comparison available. Every price, credit system, and usage limit has been independently verified against official documentation as of August 5, 2026.

This guide compares the major coding subscriptions available in 2026, including:

  • First-party model subscriptions from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and xAI
  • GitHub Copilot and Amazon’s coding products
  • Coding editors and agent harnesses such as Cursor, Devin, Factory, Amp, Warp and Zed
  • Open-source and BYOK tools including Cline, Kilo Code and OpenCode
  • App-building and enterprise platforms including Replit, Augment, GitLab, Qodo and Tabnine
  • Major closed and open-weight coding model families

Important: Prices, model availability, credit multipliers, promotional allowances, rate limits and regional eligibility are subject to change. Always verify the linked official pricing page before purchasing.

Executive summary

Requirement Strong starting choice Starting price Main limitation
Best inexpensive mainstream IDE plan GitHub Copilot Pro $10/month Agent usage is credit-metered
Best native OpenAI coding access ChatGPT Plus with Codex $20/month Weekly limits may apply
Best native Claude coding access Claude Pro with Claude Code $20/month Claude chat and Code share one quota
Best low-cost open-model subscription OpenCode Go $10/month Model lineup can change
Best open-source multi-model harness Kilo Code or Cline Free harness Model inference is normally separate
Best transparent rolling-window system Factory Droid $20/month Absolute token totals are not published
Best terminal-centric plan Warp Build $20/month Included agent usage is only $20
Best lightweight editor with BYOK Zed Free or $10/month Pro includes only $5 hosted-model credit
Best cloud parallel-agent subscription Amp or Devin $20/month Agent compute and model usage may be separate
Best app-building subscription Replit Core $25 monthly Agent cost depends on task effort
Best spec-driven credit plan Kiro $20/month Different models consume credits differently
Best flat team entry price Augment Business $100/month Includes only $100 pooled usage
Best enterprise DevSecOps integration GitLab Duo Agent Platform $29/user/month plus usage Included credits are promotional
Best dedicated AI code review product Qodo Pro Team From $30/month Focused primarily on reviews

No single plan is objectively best. The correct choice depends on whether you value:

  1. A particular model family
  2. Predictable monthly cost
  3. Large agent quotas
  4. Cloud execution
  5. IDE integration
  6. Open-source control
  7. Enterprise governance

Material corrections from the previous comparison

The second independent review identified several issues that commonly appear in older comparisons.

1. OpenAI now publishes estimated message ranges

OpenAI previously described Codex access mainly through relative plan multipliers. It now publishes estimated local-message ranges for different models over a shared five-hour window.

These are ranges rather than guarantees because task size, repository context, reasoning level and tool usage affect consumption.

2. GitHub AI Credits include a variable flex component

GitHub lists a base credit allowance and a separate flex allowance.

For example, Copilot Pro is a $10 subscription but currently advertises $15 in total monthly AI Credits:

  • $10 base allocation
  • $5 variable flex allocation

GitHub explicitly states that flex allowances may change.

3. OpenCode Go now publishes model-specific request estimates

OpenCode Go no longer needs to be described only as having “generous usage.” Its pricing page now publishes estimated requests per five-hour window for every included model.

4. Cline now has an optional subscription

The Cline harness remains open source and free to use with BYOK, but Cline now also offers ClinePass for $9.99 per month with a curated open-weight model lineup.

5. Amazon Q Developer remains active

Amazon Q Developer is currently offered in:

  • Free tier
  • Pro tier at $19 per user per month

The earlier classification of Amazon Q Developer as unavailable to new subscribers was incorrect and has been removed.

6. JetBrains individual and organization pricing is different

JetBrains charges organizations approximately twice the individual rate while also providing twice the normal monthly AI Credit allocation.

7. Unsupported Devin message estimates have been removed

Devin publishes daily and weekly reset rules but does not currently provide one authoritative fixed number of messages for every plan. Any precise “messages per day” figure would be unreliable because consumption depends on the model, context and task.

Understanding the different usage systems

The subscription price alone does not tell you how much coding work the plan supports.

Metering system Used by What is published Main uncertainty
Five-hour message ranges OpenAI Codex Estimated messages by model Large tasks consume more
Five-hour and weekly quota Claude Relative plan capacity No fixed message count
Dollar-valued AI Credits GitHub Copilot Monthly credit value Model-specific token burn
Fixed monthly credits Kiro Numerical credit allocation Each model has a different multiplier
Rolling token windows Factory Five-hour, seven-day and 30-day windows Absolute token allowance is private
Daily and weekly quota Devin Reset cadence Exact capacity is dynamic
Dollar token credit Zed, Replit, Amp Included dollar value Task and context determine cost
Agent compute hours Amp Remote-agent hours Tokens may be charged separately
BYOK Cline, Kilo, OpenCode, Warp, Zed Provider token prices Monthly spend depends on usage
Relative multiplier Cursor 3× or 20× base usage Absolute usage is not disclosed
Review credits Qodo Approximate reviews per pack Large pull requests consume more

A “request” is not comparable across providers. One request may be a short autocomplete, while another may launch a long-running agent that reads thousands of files, executes tests and revises its work multiple times.

1. OpenAI Codex and ChatGPT plans

Codex is included in supported ChatGPT plans and is available through:

  • Codex web
  • Codex CLI
  • IDE extension
  • iOS
  • Cloud integrations
  • Code review and connected workflows where supported

OpenAI individual plans

Plan Price Coding allowance Models Overage
ChatGPT Free $0 Limited Codex access Plan-dependent Upgrade
ChatGPT Go Approximately $8/month; regional More access than Free Plan-dependent Upgrade or credits where supported
ChatGPT Plus $20/month Base paid Codex allowance GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra and Luna ChatGPT credits
ChatGPT Pro 5× $100/month Approximately 5× Plus GPT-5.6 family; Codex previews may be included ChatGPT credits
ChatGPT Pro 20× $200/month Approximately 20× Plus Broadest individual Codex access ChatGPT credits

Official OpenAI Codex pricing

OpenAI explicitly positions Luna as the higher-volume option, while Sol and Terra use substantially more of the available allowance. Plus costs $20 per month, includes the GPT-5.6 family and can be extended with ChatGPT credits.

Estimated local Codex messages per five-hour window

Model Plus Pro 5× Pro 20×
GPT-5.6 Sol 10–100 50–500 200–2,000
GPT-5.6 Terra 25–200 125–1,000 500–4,000
GPT-5.6 Luna 250–2,000 1,250–10,000 5,000–40,000
GPT-5.5 15–80 75–400 300–1,600
GPT-5.4 20–100 100–500 400–2,000
GPT-5.4 mini 60–350 300–1,750 1,200–7,000

These figures are estimates, not guaranteed message counts. OpenAI states that local and cloud usage share a five-hour window and that additional weekly limits may apply.

Important OpenAI limitations

  • Long-running repository tasks consume more than simple questions.
  • Higher-reasoning models consume allowance faster.
  • ChatGPT and some agentic products may use a shared credit pool.
  • Cloud workflows and local interactions may not have identical model availability.
  • Model retirements can affect signed-in Codex access without affecting API or BYOK access.
  • Buying the $200 plan does not mean every task costs exactly one-twentieth of the Plus allowance.

Best for

ChatGPT Plus is appropriate for developers who want several focused Codex sessions each week. The $100 tier suits frequent daily use. The $200 tier makes more sense for sustained agent work, large repositories or parallel coding sessions.

2. Anthropic Claude and Claude Code

Claude Code is included in all paid Claude plans.

Usage is shared across:

  • Claude web
  • Desktop and mobile apps
  • Claude Code
  • Other eligible Claude surfaces

Claude individual plans

Plan Price Published usage Reset structure Overage
Claude Free $0 Limited Rolling window Upgrade
Claude Pro $20 monthly or $200/year At least 5× Free per five-hour session Five-hour window plus weekly limits Usage credits/API
Claude Max 5× $100/month 5× Pro per five-hour session Five-hour window plus weekly limits Usage credits/API
Claude Max 20× $200/month 20× Pro per five-hour session Five-hour window plus weekly limits Usage credits/API

Official Claude pricing

Claude Pro costs $20 monthly or $200 when billed annually. Max starts at $100 per month and provides either 5× or 20× Pro capacity depending on the selected tier.

Anthropic does not publish a fixed number of Claude Code messages. Usage varies according to conversation length, selected model, repository context and feature use. Five-hour limits are supplemented by weekly limits, and usage across Claude applications and Claude Code draws from the same pool.

Current Claude API rates relevant to overage

Model Input per million tokens Output per million tokens
Claude Fable 5 $10 $50
Claude Opus 5 $5 $25
Claude Sonnet 5 $2 introductory / $3 standard $10 introductory / $15 standard
Claude Haiku 4.5 $1 $5

Sonnet 5 introductory pricing is scheduled through 31 August 2026, after which the listed standard rate applies unless Anthropic changes it.

Important Claude limitations

  • Chat activity and coding activity share the same allowance.
  • A long Claude chat can reduce the capacity available to Claude Code.
  • Max is a relative multiplier, not a fixed token bundle.
  • Weekly limits can be reached even when the current five-hour session has reset.
  • Model-specific availability may differ by plan.
  • Additional usage is normally charged at API rates.

Best for

Claude Pro is suitable for shorter coding sessions and moderate repositories. Max 5× is more appropriate for daily development. Max 20× is aimed at heavy Claude Code users working on large or long-running tasks.

3. GitHub Copilot

GitHub Copilot now uses token-priced GitHub AI Credits rather than the older premium-request system.

One AI Credit is worth $0.01.

GitHub Copilot individual plans

Plan Subscription price Current total AI Credits Equivalent value Completions
Free $0 Limited chat and agent usage Not fixed Up to 2,000/month
Pro $10/month 1,500 $15 Unlimited
Pro+ $39/month 7,000 $70 Unlimited
Max $100/month 20,000 $200 Unlimited

Official GitHub Copilot plans

The advertised total consists of base credits plus a flex allowance:

Plan Base allocation Current flex allocation Total
Pro $10 $5 $15
Pro+ $39 $31 $70
Max $100 $100 $200

GitHub warns that the flex allocation is variable and may change over time.

What consumes GitHub AI Credits?

Credits are used by features such as:

  • Copilot Chat
  • Agent mode
  • Copilot CLI
  • Code review
  • Cloud coding agents
  • Copilot Spaces
  • Copilot Apps
  • GitHub Spark

Paid-plan inline completions and next-edit suggestions do not consume AI Credits and remain unlimited.

Model access

GitHub provides one of the broadest managed model catalogs, with availability across providers such as:

  • OpenAI
  • Anthropic
  • Google
  • xAI
  • Microsoft
  • Moonshot AI
  • Other selected providers

The actual credit cost is determined by the selected model, the number of tokens processed and the feature invoking it.

Important GitHub limitations

  • A $15 credit allowance does not mean 1,500 agent tasks.
  • Larger or more expensive models consume credits faster.
  • Different Copilot features may expose different model selectors.
  • Included credits reset monthly and do not normally roll over.
  • Flex allowances are not guaranteed permanently.

Best for

Copilot Pro remains one of the strongest low-cost choices for developers who primarily need IDE completions, chat and moderate agent work. Pro+ is better for regular premium-model use. Max is intended for sustained agent and cloud workloads.

4. Google Antigravity and Gemini Code Assist

Google now separates its consumer coding offering from its business Code Assist subscriptions.

Consumer Google AI plans

Plan India starting price Antigravity access Other coding benefits
Google AI Plus ₹399/month Limited agent requests Limited AI Studio access
Google AI Pro ₹1,950/month Expanded Expanded AI Studio and Jules limits; Google Cloud credit
Google AI Ultra From approximately ₹6,500/month Higher or highest, depending on 5×/20× tier Highest AI Studio, Jules and Gemini access

Official Google AI plans for India

Google publishes Antigravity limits using qualitative tiers—limited, expanded, higher and highest—rather than fixed request or token numbers. Google AI Plus currently advertises 2× normal Gemini limits, Pro 4×, and Ultra variants up to 20× Pro.

Regional prices, introductory promotions, taxes and storage bundles can change. The amount displayed in the user’s Google One account should be treated as authoritative.

Consumer Gemini Code Assist retirement

Beginning 18 June 2026, the Gemini Code Assist IDE extension and Gemini CLI stopped serving requests for:

  • Gemini Code Assist for Individuals
  • Google AI Pro consumer login
  • Google AI Ultra consumer login

Google directs consumer users toward Antigravity and Antigravity CLI. Business Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise subscriptions remain active and unaffected.

Gemini Code Assist business plans

Plan Monthly price Annual-commitment effective price Agent/CLI requests per user per day
Standard Approximately $22.80/user Approximately $19/user/month 1,500
Enterprise Approximately $54/user Approximately $45/user/month 2,000

Official Gemini Code Assist quotas

Google currently publishes the following shared business limits:

Quota Published limit
Requests per second 2
Code generation and completion requests 6,000 per user/day
Chat and other panel requests 960 per user/day
Agent mode plus Gemini CLI — Standard 1,500 requests per user/day
Agent mode plus Gemini CLI — Enterprise 2,000 requests per user/day
Local-codebase awareness 1,000,000-token context
Gemini Code Assist GitHub reviews At least 100 PR reviews per installation/day

One prompt in agent mode can generate several underlying model requests, so 1,500 agent requests do not necessarily equal 1,500 user prompts.

Gemini 3.1 Pro is currently available in public preview under configured preview channels, while Gemini 3.5 Flash is generally available to Standard and Enterprise customers.

Best for

Antigravity is the appropriate consumer Google coding product. Gemini Code Assist Standard and Enterprise are better suited to organizations that want explicit daily quotas, Google Cloud administration and IDE governance.

5. xAI SuperGrok and Grok Build

Plan Price Coding access Published limit
Grok Free $0 Limited Grok Build access Described as limited
SuperGrok $30/month Grok Build and Grok 4.5 Higher rate limits; no numerical coding quota
Business Varies Team controls and Grok Build Plan-dependent
Enterprise Custom Custom infrastructure and limits Negotiated

Official xAI pricing

SuperGrok costs $30 per month and includes Grok 4.5, Grok Build and higher limits across the service. xAI does not currently publish one fixed coding-token or request allowance for the plan.

Some external harnesses, including Amp and Kilo Code, support linking eligible xAI or X subscriptions. This does not mean every third-party harness supports SuperGrok authentication.

6. Amazon Q Developer

Plan Price Agentic requests Transformation allowance Administration
Free $0 50/month 1,000 lines of code/month No central administration
Pro $19/user/month Increased limits; exact number not published 4,000 lines/user/month pooled Admin dashboard and AWS Identity Center

Official Amazon Q Developer pricing

Amazon Q Developer supports IDE plugins, CLI workflows and access to current Claude models. Pro includes IP indemnity and administrative controls. Additional eligible Java transformation usage costs $0.003 per submitted line of code.

Best for

Amazon Q Developer remains relevant for organizations already operating heavily on AWS, particularly where AWS Identity Center, console assistance and Java or .NET modernization are important.

7. Kiro

Kiro uses monthly credits rather than message counts.

Individual and team plans

Plan Price per user/month Included credits Add-on rate
Free $0 50 Not applicable
Pro $20 1,000 $0.04/credit
Pro+ $40 2,000 $0.04/credit
Pro Max $100 5,000 $0.04/credit
Power $200 10,000 $0.04/credit

Official Kiro pricing

Kiro plan credits reset each billing month and do not roll over. Purchased add-on credits can roll over but expire 12 months after purchase.

How Kiro credits work

A credit represents work rather than a fixed request.

  • Simple prompts can cost less than one credit.
  • Complex specification tasks can cost more than one credit.
  • Credits are measured to two decimal places.
  • Different models have different multipliers.
  • Kiro provides the example that a task costing X credits through Auto may cost 1.3X through Sonnet 4.6.

Paid subscriptions can be used in:

  • Kiro IDE
  • Kiro CLI
  • Kiro web
  • ACP-compatible IDEs
  • Supported software-development automations

Kiro prohibits using the subscription through some unrelated third-party harnesses.

Model access

The current lineup includes combinations of:

  • Auto routing
  • Claude Sonnet models
  • Claude Opus models
  • Qwen
  • DeepSeek
  • MiniMax
  • Other open-weight models

Availability varies by country and plan.

Cursor

Cursor’s pricing page publishes relative Agent limits rather than absolute token or request totals:

  • Pro: base paid allowance
  • Pro+: 3× Pro Agent limits
  • Ultra: 20× Pro Agent limits
  • Teams Standard: $40 per user per month
  • Teams Premium: 5× Standard Agent limits

Cursor allows on-demand usage after the included allowance has been consumed.

Official Cursor pricing

Reviewer’s assessment

Cursor is visually easy to understand but less transparent than fixed-credit products. The plan-to-plan multiplier is clear, while the absolute model usage included in each plan is not.

Devin and Windsurf

Plan Price Published allowance
Free $0 Light quota, limited models
Pro $20/month Increased daily and weekly quota
Max $200/month Significantly higher quota
Teams $80/month team fee plus $40/full developer seat Per-seat quota plus team features
Enterprise Custom Negotiated

Paid allowances refresh daily and weekly. The cost of a message varies according to the model, task size, complexity, context and reasoning requirement. Extra usage can be purchased at API pricing.

Official Devin pricing

Reviewer’s assessment

Devin provides clear prices and reset cadence but does not provide a reliable universal message count. Avoid comparisons that claim a precise number of daily messages without naming the model and measurement method.

Factory Droid

Plan Price Relative usage
Pro $20/month Base
Plus $100/month Approximately 5× Pro
Max $200/month Approximately 10× Pro

Factory uses three independent rolling windows:

  • Five hours
  • Seven days
  • 30 days

Standard Usage is consumed first. When it is exhausted, users can continue through the separately limited Droid Core open-weight pool. Extra Usage is prepaid, starts at $10 and does not expire. BYOK is free up to a plan-specific allowance.

Official Factory pricing

Reviewer’s assessment

Factory publishes one of the clearest reset structures in the market. It still does not publish the absolute Standard Usage token totals.

Amp

Plan Price Remote-agent allowance Included model usage
Megawatt $20/month 750 hours of small orbs $20
Gigawatt $200/month 1,000 hours of large orbs $200

Megawatt supports Low and Medium modes. Gigawatt includes all modes, including High and Ultra.

Amp supports linking eligible ChatGPT and xAI subscriptions. Pay-as-you-go usage remains available. Beyond the subscription’s included allowance, users need a linked subscription or paid Amp credits.

Official Amp subscription announcement

Reviewer’s assessment

Amp is unusual because remote compute hours and agent-token usage are both relevant. The large number of orb hours should not be mistaken for unlimited premium-model tokens.

Warp

Plan Monthly price Annual effective price Included credits
Free $0 $0 BYO inference or reload credits
Build $20 $18/month 1,500 credits
Max $200 $180/month 18,000 credits
Business $50/user $45/user/month 1,500 credits per seat

Warp describes 1,500 credits as $20 of included agent usage at API rates. Max provides 12× the included usage of Build. Warp supports frontier and open-weight models, cloud agents and BYO inference.

Official Warp pricing

Zed

Plan Price Hosted usage BYOK
Personal Free Limited edit predictions Yes
Pro $10/month $5 token credit Yes
Business $30/seat/month Usage billed separately Yes

After the included $5 credit is used, Zed charges hosted-model usage at the model provider’s API list price plus 10%. Users can set a spending cap.

Zed supports several external providers and agents, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, GitHub Copilot, Ollama, LM Studio and others.

Official Zed pricing

Reviewer’s assessment

Zed Pro should be viewed primarily as a paid editor and edit-prediction plan, not as a large bundled-token subscription.

JetBrains AI

Individual plans

Plan Price AI Credits every 30 days
AI Free $0 3
AI Pro $10 10
AI Ultimate $30 35

Organization plans

Plan Price AI Credits every 30 days
AI Free $0 3
AI Pro $20 20
AI Ultimate $60 70
AI Enterprise $60 At least comparable to Ultimate; exact quota undisclosed

One JetBrains AI Credit equals $1. Included individual credits expire at renewal. Purchased top-up credits remain valid for 12 months. Organization credits may be pooled under JetBrains Central.

Official JetBrains AI licensing

Replit

Plan Price Credits Parallel agents Collaborators
Starter Free Free daily Agent credits Limited Limited
Core $25 monthly or $20 annual effective $25/month Up to 2 Up to 5
Pro $100 monthly or $95 annual effective $100/month Up to 10 Up to 15
Enterprise Custom Custom Custom Custom

Replit prices agent work using an effort-based system. The monthly credit value is predictable, but the number of applications or agent tasks that it buys is not.

9. Open-source and BYOK coding harnesses

“Open-source harness” and “free coding” are not the same thing.

The harness may be free, while the selected model is billed by:

  • OpenAI
  • Anthropic
  • Google
  • xAI
  • OpenRouter
  • A cloud marketplace
  • A local-compute provider

Running a local model avoids per-token API charges but transfers cost to hardware, memory, storage, electricity and maintenance.

Harness Platform cost Optional subscription BYOK Local models
Cline Free for individuals ClinePass $9.99/month Yes Yes
Kilo Code Free individual platform Pass from $19/month Yes Yes
OpenCode Free Go $10/month Yes Yes
Roo Code Free None required Yes Yes
Aider Free None Yes Yes
OpenHands Open-source deployment Hosted pricing varies Yes Yes
Goose Free None Yes Yes
Zed Free editor Pro $10/month Yes Yes
Continue lineage Current standalone status changed No current standalone plan Historically yes Historically yes

Kilo Code

The Kilo platform is free for individual use. Model inference can come from:

  • Kilo Gateway
  • BYOK
  • Local models
  • Linked subscriptions
  • Kilo Pass

Kilo Pass

Tier Price Maximum advertised monthly credit value
Starter $19/month Up to $26.60
Pro $49/month Up to $68.60
Expert $199/month Up to $278.60

The maximum credit figures depend on subscription streaks or annual bonus rules. They should not be treated as guaranteed first-month value.

Official Kilo pricing

Kilo supports hundreds of models and dozens of providers. It is one of the most flexible options for users who want to combine managed credits, provider keys, local models and supported consumer subscriptions.

OpenCode Go

OpenCode itself is an open-source coding harness. OpenCode Go is an optional managed subscription.

Model Estimated requests per five hours
Grok 4.5 120
Kimi K3 110
Qwen3.8 Max 160
GLM-5.2 880
MiniMax M3 3,200
DeepSeek V4 Pro 3,450
GPT-5.6 Luna 4,100 during listed 2× promotion
Qwen3.7 Plus 4,300
Hy3 4,300
MiMo-V2.5 30,100
DeepSeek V4 Flash 31,650

OpenCode Go costs $5 for the first month and $10 per month thereafter.

Official OpenCode Go pricing

These figures demonstrate how misleading a generic “request” comparison can be. The difference between 110 Kimi K3 requests and more than 30,000 DeepSeek V4 Flash requests largely reflects model cost and workload assumptions—not necessarily a 270× difference in completed software work.

OpenCode also offers Zen as a pay-as-you-go model gateway and supports ordinary BYOK providers.

Cline and ClinePass

Cline remains an open-source harness that can be used without a Cline subscription.

ClinePass adds:

  • A flat $9.99 monthly subscription
  • Curated open-weight coding models
  • Usage across IDE, CLI and SDK surfaces
  • Approximately 2–5× standard API rate limits
  • Continued support for BYOK and local models

Current listed ClinePass models include combinations of:

  • GLM-5.2
  • Kimi K2.7 Code
  • Kimi K2.6
  • DeepSeek V4 Pro
  • DeepSeek V4 Flash
  • MiMo V2.5
  • Other curated open-weight models

Cline does not publish a universal fixed number of ClinePass requests.

10. Team, enterprise and code-review platforms

Augment Code

Plan Price Seats Included usage
Business $100/month flat Up to 50 $100 pooled monthly usage
Enterprise Custom Custom or unlimited Custom

The $100 Business plan covers up to 50 seats without a per-seat charge, but it includes only $100 of shared usage across:

  • LLM consumption
  • Context Engine
  • Compute

Top-ups are pay-as-you-go. It should not be interpreted as unlimited AI usage for 50 developers.

Official Augment pricing

GitLab Duo Agent Platform

GitLab plan Base platform price Included AI usage
Free $0 Additional GitLab Credits required for many AI features
Premium $29/user/month, billed annually Promotional $12 GitLab Credits/user/month
Ultimate Custom Promotional $24 GitLab Credits/user/month

Additional GitLab Credits cost $1 each, with possible annual-commitment volume discounts.

The included Premium and Ultimate credits are explicitly marked as a limited-time promotion and can change.

Official GitLab pricing

GitLab is better evaluated as a complete DevSecOps platform with integrated agents rather than as a direct alternative to a $10 individual coding editor.

Qodo

Qodo focuses primarily on code review, governance and pull-request quality.

Credit pack Price at $0.012/credit Approximate published reviews/month
2,500 credits $30 18
5,000 credits $60 36
20,000 credits $240 144

The Pro Team plan supports up to 30 users and uses a pooled monthly credit balance. Unused credits expire at the end of the billing cycle. Overage is charged at the same per-credit rate, subject to a customer-configured spending cap.

Official Qodo pricing

A Qodo “review” estimate depends on pull-request size and complexity. It is not equivalent to a general coding-agent request.

Tabnine

Plan Price Billing model
Code Assistant $39/user/month, billed annually Seat plus inference
Agentic Platform $59/user/month, billed annually Seat plus inference
Enterprise options Custom Contract-based

Official Tabnine pricing

Tabnine is designed mainly for organizations requiring privacy, controlled deployment and model flexibility. It supports models from providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Meta and Mistral.

When Tabnine supplies the underlying LLM, inference is generally handled through reserved usage based on the provider’s actual model cost plus a handling charge. Organizations can also use supported private or self-hosted endpoints.

11. Major closed and open-weight coding models

The model market changes faster than the subscription market. A provider may add or remove a model without changing the plan price.

Major closed model families

Provider Major current coding models Common subscription access
OpenAI GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra and Luna; GPT-5.3-Codex family Codex, GitHub Copilot and selected harnesses
Anthropic Claude Sonnet 5, Opus 5, Fable 5 and Haiku 4.5 Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and multi-model harnesses
Google Gemini 3.1 Pro and Gemini 3.5 Flash Antigravity, Code Assist and multi-model harnesses
xAI Grok 4.5 and Grok Build SuperGrok and supported harness integrations
Microsoft Microsoft-hosted coding and routing models GitHub Copilot

Closed-model access is usually subject to both the subscription plan and the selected harness. A model available in one feature may not appear in another feature under the same subscription.

Major open-weight model families

Family Developer or provider Common availability

Open-weight does not always mean open source

A model can publish downloadable weights while imposing licensing conditions that prevent it from meeting the Open Source Initiative’s definition of open source.

Before embedding an open-weight model into a commercial product, verify:

  • Commercial-use rights
  • Redistribution rights
  • Acceptable-use restrictions
  • Fine-tuning and derivative-model terms
  • Hosted-service restrictions
  • Attribution requirements
  • Geographic restrictions

The coding harness being open source does not change the license of the selected model.

12. Which plan offers the most predictable usage?

Highest quota transparency

These providers publish the clearest numerical allowances:

  1. GitHub Copilot — dollar-valued monthly AI Credits
  2. Kiro — fixed monthly credits and a stated add-on price
  3. OpenCode Go — model-specific requests per five hours
  4. Warp — fixed monthly credit quantities
  5. Zed — fixed hosted-token credit and exact markup
  6. JetBrains — fixed AI Credits every 30 days
  7. Google Code Assist — explicit daily request quotas
  8. Qodo — fixed review credits and approximate review counts

Medium transparency

  • OpenAI Codex: useful message ranges and reset window, but real consumption varies.
  • Factory: reset structure is clear, but absolute token totals are not public.
  • Amp: agent hours and dollar allowance are clear, but combined workload cost is more complex.
  • Replit: included dollar credits are clear, but effort pricing varies by task.

Lower quota transparency

  • Claude: clear relative multipliers and reset windows, but no fixed message number.
  • Cursor: clear 3× and 20× plan multipliers, but no public absolute allocation.
  • Devin: clear daily and weekly cadence, but no universal numerical allowance.
  • SuperGrok: higher limits are advertised without a fixed coding quota.
  • Google Antigravity: limited, expanded, higher and highest tiers rather than numerical requests.

Lower transparency does not necessarily indicate poor value. It means the user must test the service against a real workload before committing to a high-priced plan.

13. Recommendations by type of developer

Occasional coding and autocomplete

Consider:

  • GitHub Copilot Free
  • Zed Personal with BYOK
  • Cline with a low-cost provider
  • OpenCode with BYOK
  • Kiro Free

A paid $100 or $200 plan is unnecessary unless agent sessions are frequent and substantial.

Best plan around $10

GitHub Copilot Pro

Best for developers who want:

  • Broad IDE support
  • Unlimited paid-plan completions
  • Multiple managed models
  • Chat, review and agent features
  • Predictable monthly AI-credit value

OpenCode Go

Best for developers who want:

  • A low-cost managed subscription
  • Open-weight and low-cost model access
  • Published model-specific five-hour limits
  • The ability to keep using OpenCode with other providers

Zed Pro

Best for developers who primarily want:

  • Zed’s editor and unlimited edit predictions
  • BYOK flexibility
  • Occasional hosted-model use

It is not the best choice when the primary objective is a large hosted-token allowance.

Best plan around $20

ChatGPT Plus with Codex

Best when the preferred models are GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra or Luna and the developer also wants the wider ChatGPT subscription.

Claude Pro

Best when Claude Code and Sonnet are the preferred development environment, provided five-hour and weekly limits are sufficient.

Cursor Pro

Best for developers who prefer the Cursor editor and integrated agent workflow over direct first-party model access.

Devin Pro

Best for developers who want Windsurf, Devin Desktop and access to both local and cloud agents.

Factory Pro

Best for users who value rolling limits and an open-weight fallback pool.

Warp Build

Best for terminal-first development and users who want BYO inference alongside managed credits.

Amp Megawatt

Best for experimenting with remote parallel agents, especially when an eligible ChatGPT or xAI subscription can also be linked.

Kiro Pro

Best for specification-driven workflows and developers who prefer an explicit 1,000-credit allocation.

Best heavy-use plans

At approximately $100:

  • ChatGPT Pro 5×
  • Claude Max 5×
  • Factory Plus
  • Kiro Pro Max
  • GitHub Copilot Max
  • Replit Pro
  • Augment Business for teams

At approximately $200:

  • ChatGPT Pro 20×
  • Claude Max 20×
  • Cursor Ultra
  • Devin Max
  • Factory Max
  • Amp Gigawatt
  • Warp Max
  • Kiro Power
  • Kilo Pass Expert

Do not assume similarly priced plans provide similar capacity. A $200 remote-agent plan may include compute hours, while another $200 plan may provide only model usage.

14. How to choose without wasting money

Before subscribing to a high-tier plan, test the service using one representative coding task.

A useful test should include:

  1. Repository indexing
  2. A multi-file implementation
  3. Test execution
  4. At least one failed test and correction cycle
  5. Documentation or migration updates
  6. A final diff review
  7. Measurement of consumed allowance or credits
  8. Verification of whether cache/context is preserved across sessions

Record:

  • Number of prompts
  • Wall-clock duration
  • Model selected
  • Context size
  • Credits or quota consumed
  • Number of agent tool calls
  • Number of retries
  • Whether cloud compute was separately billed
  • Quality of the final patch
  • Manual corrections required

The cheapest plan per request may be more expensive per accepted pull request if its model or harness requires repeated correction.

15. Final conclusions

The coding-subscription market has split into four categories, and choosing the wrong one wastes money fast.

First-party model subscriptions

OpenAI Codex and Claude Code provide the most direct access to their respective frontier ecosystems. Choose these when you are locked into a specific model family and want the tightest integration. The risk: you are entirely dependent on one vendor's rate limits and pricing decisions.

Multi-model managed editors

GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Devin, Factory, Warp and Zed wrap a broader tool layer around multiple models. GitHub remains unbeatable at the $10 entry point. Cursor and Devin dominate for integrated agent workflows. The risk: credit systems can be opaque, and "unlimited" Auto modes may silently downgrade model quality.

Open-source and BYOK harnesses

Cline, Kilo Code, OpenCode, Roo Code, Aider, OpenHands and Goose provide maximum control and eliminate subscription lock-in. The catch: your true cost depends entirely on which model endpoint you connect — and API bills can easily exceed any subscription if you are not monitoring usage.

Development platforms and enterprise systems

Replit, Augment, GitLab, Qodo, Tabnine and Google Code Assist combine coding AI with hosting, code review, DevSecOps, governance or organizational administration. Best for: teams that need compliance, audit trails, or centralized billing.

The bottom line

For most individual developers, here are the strongest starting points by need:

Need Best starting choice Why
Cheapest mainstream IDE plan GitHub Copilot Pro ($10) Unmatched value with unlimited Auto completions
Best native OpenAI coding ChatGPT Plus ($20) Direct Codex access with generous rolling limits
Best native Claude coding Claude Pro ($20) Claude Code included; strongest long-horizon agent
Cheapest curated multi-model OpenCode Go ($10) Multiple frontier models, no BYOK complexity
Maximum flexibility (BYOK) Cline or Kilo Code (free) Bring any API key; total model freedom
Best rolling-window transparency Factory Pro ($20) Clear token accounting; open-weight fallback
Best credit predictability Kiro Pro ($20) Monthly credit budget with no hidden windows
Lightest editor + BYOK Zed Personal (free) Minimal overhead; native LSP; bring your key

One universal rule: never buy a $100 or $200 plan without first measuring a real workload at the $20 tier. The advertised "5× usage" or "20× limits" rarely translates linearly to 5× or 20× the productive output. Start small, measure, then scale.
